Deeply insightful readings from 60's era Marlboro October 12, 2013 By Philip L. (Greensboro, NC) See All My Reviews "These are live performances of trice familiar symphonies, given new life in the hands of a committed community of musical artists, under the inspired direction of octogenarian Pablo Casals. Recorded in 1969 and 1963 respectively, they are imbued with a great sense of both occasion and renewal as Beethoven's mind and heart are revealed to a degree that most readings cannot dream of. Despite expected advances in recording technology, these versions stand the test of time very well indeed. For the listener hungering for Beethoven as a living, accessible experience, one need look no further. ArkivMusic must be commended for keeping this and other Casals titles from the Sony Marlboro Festival series before the musical public. Bravo!" Report Abuse
