Notes and Editorial Reviews

Right from the start of his recording career with BIS, Claude Delangle has been a favourite with the critics: "This is simply breathtaking, and counts among the finest duo playing I have heard of any instruments? was the view of the International Record Review when faced with Claude Delangle?s recording of French music for saxophone and piano with Odile Delangle (BIS-CD-1130). Claude Delangle has an unparalleled reputation as a saxophone player and on this recording shows his command of all four of the main members of the saxophone family. The current disc is of particular interest in that it takes us back to the origins of the saxophone and of composing for the instrument. While everyone knows that the instrument ? or family of Read more instruments ? was invented by Adolphe Sax (1814-1894), it is not common knowledge that Sax promoted his invention by publishing large amounts of new compositions especially for the instrument. Of great interest is the fact that the alto saxophone used on this recording is a truly historic instrument dating from the end of the 19th century. Claude and Odile Delangle perform these ? usually ? virtuosic works with all the sparkle and enthusiasm that the music demands. Duo playing at the highest level! Read less
