Thrilling disc of works by an overlooked Danish m December 21, 2017 By Guy Rickards (Northwood, Middlesex) See All My Reviews "I recall seeing a live performance of Erik Norby's then brand new symphonic poem 'The Rainbow Snake' in 1978 (I think) when Herbert Blomstedt toured it with the Danish Radio SO (as it was then) and Nielsen's 1st and 6th Symphonies. Norby's music, insptred by ancient legend, dazzled in the Royal Festival Hall and does so again in this terrific account. Norby was a fine, lyrical composer and his Rilke Lieder and Munch trilogy showcase his outstanding ability for handling solo and choral forces. Excellent performances from the Aalborg orchestra and chorus under the great Bo Holten (himself mo mean composer). Terrific sound, too, as always from BIS." Report Abuse
