Notes and Editorial Reviews

"Joeres doesn't just let his musicians play, he makes them shape each phrase with loving care." -- Pizzicato

"Bizet's enchanting Symphony, written when the composer was 17, is a work of precocious skill and great charm... The RPO woodwind soloists play well, of course (in) the brightly coloured Carmen... Jeux d'Enfants makes a good encore, again well played." -- Gramophone

George Bizet's first important work, the Symphony in C was penned when the composer was a mere seventeen years of age!  Francais Delices December 3, 2016 By owen ryan (lakewood, CA) See All My Reviews "When I first started playing the Symphony in C I pulled it out of the player to check the label as I thought I had mixed up this Bizet with an early Beethoven. Nope, that's the way it starts out but it later morphs into a more romantic style. Written in 1855 by 17 year old Georges Bizet, it remained unknown until its discovery in 1933. Said to be modelled on Gounod's Symphony in D, it is a melodically precocious work that anyone can enjoy. All of these works are fun easy listening. The Carmen suites are well known popular works. The Jeux d' Enfants (Children's Games) written for piano was later, in part, scored for orchestra as Petite Suite d' Orchestre. All of these performances are first rate and in excellent audio. Highly recommended light listening." Report Abuse
