Notes and Editorial Reviews

The idea behind this compilation is not to offer a definitive selection of the very best British composers of Light Music. Such an enterprise could fill at least ten CDs, and then still leave many deserving composers unrepresented. The intention is simply to provide examples of the work of just some who are considered by their admirers to possess the special talents that are particularly suited to the challenge of having their works performed by a concert orchestra. Therefore you will find well-known composers such as Eric Coates, Haydn Wood, Albert Ketèlbey, Edward German and Frederic Curzon alongside others like Jack Beaver, John Ansell, Len Stevens, Vivian Ellis, Charles Williams, Clive Richardson and Trevor Duncan. The cinema Read more (often a source of some excellent light music) is also represented by Arthur Bliss and Richard Addinsell - all helping to make this a varied and enjoyable tribute to some truly great British composers.
