Discoveries, Grammy award winner Gustavo Dudamels first "Best of" album, features favorites from Beethoven to Bernstein and several Dudamel tracks never before released on CD including highlights from Mendelssohns Scottish Symphony and the Bacchanale from Saint-Saens Samson et Delila.
Discoveries covers many aspects of Gustavo Dudamels fascinating musical story so far: the story of his roots in Venezuelas El Sistema (on The Promise of Music), and recordings with many of the orchestras with which he is most closely associated: The Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Gothenburg Symphony.
"With my orchestras," says Dudamel, "we thinkRead more of music like jet fuel. It s pure adrenaline - and I think you can hear it."
The track with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Vivace non troppo from Mendelssohns Symphony No.3) is taken from the brand new charity LP. This is a first and only release on CD.
The DVD component on this CD + DVD features the prize-winning, critically-acclaimed documentary by Enrique Sánchez Lansch: The Promise of Music. Read less

El Sistema and Gustavo DudamelOctober 24, 2012By Robert Sanders (Bluemont, VA)See All My Reviews"The first time I ever saw or heard of El Sistema and Gustavo Dudamel was a TED presentation in February 2009 http://www.ted.com/talks/astonishing_performance_by_a_venezuelan_youth_orchestra_1.html). It was concert in honor of Jose Abreau, who had started El Sistema in Venezuela 35 years before http://www.ted.com/talks/jose_abreu_on_kids_transformed_by_music.html). That it was inspiring is an understatement. The average age of the members of this "best of the best" orchestra, was sixteen. This CD/DVD is a sampling of El Sistema with Gustavo Dudamel (now the conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic) at the podium. The interpretation of music that you already know is - new, crisp and inspirational. The tempo may be a bit faster as well. It is, for those familiar with El Sistema and Dudamel, most encouraging. For those not familiar it will be a new and most rewarding musical experience."Report Abuse
