Notes and Editorial Reviews

This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.

Recorded in 2012, Aapo Häkkinen plays Bach's Concertos for solo harpsichord and strings, the crown jewels of the harpsichord and piano literature on a 16' harpsichord, an instrument with an additional, very low register. Although Bach probably used a similar harpsichord himself, this is the first recording of this cycle of works on a new instrument of this kind built to historical specifications. The Helsinki Baroque Orchestra also performs, and is obliged to the best Baroque traditions. As an "encore," the CD contains Bach's famous Italian Concerto for harpsichord solo again on the 16' instrument, an amazing sonic experience!
