Notes and Editorial Reviews
For the Beethoven symphonies the Seraphim label turned to Rudolf Kempe and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra in Nos. I, 3 and 5, plus the Overtures for The Creatures of Prometheus, Egmont and Fidelio... [T]hese are sound, unidiosyncratic readings and the playing of the Munich orchestra, if not quite on the level one would expect from the VPO or BPO (which latter are heard in the three overtures), has plenty of life... [T]he Eroica is spacious and compelling... Both the Funeral March and the finale have real intensity.
