Another masterpiece from TchaikovskyNovember 29, 2012By Stephen Schoeman (Westfield, NJ)See All My Reviews"The Oprichnik is rarely performed and this is a shame because the opera is replete with beautiful arias, duets, choruses, and wonderful orchestration. The story is tragic and this is an unfortunate use of Tchaikovsky's talents! Yet again here is another opera which for reasons hard to explain has just not caught the public's fancy. There are as of this date only two recordings for purchase! This performance is excellent. It just shows that great opera can be performed by opera companies which do not have the fame, as of yet, of the Metropolitan Opera or the Vienna Opera or the Rome Opera. Nor must only recordings with famous singers be bought. There is a vast wealth of excellent talent out there which deserves recognition by purchasing the recordings they make! You cannot go wrong with this recording! Here's to an opera which should be widely performed!"Report Abuse
