Notes and Editorial Reviews
"a thrilling mix of Rachmaninov, Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. There's an energy and excitement about it that only a sensational live recording can deliver." -- FS, Sun [July 6, 2012]
"guaranteed chart-topper...there's an admirable lightness of touch and appreciation of rhythmic flow to her "Für Elise", and her negotiation of Liszt's "Un Sospiro" is captivating"

From You Tube to Royal Albert Hall September 25, 2012
By Tom Henighan (Ottawa, ON) See All My Reviews
"This is an exciting disc with all the trappings of a long-awaited in person debut by a new musical celebrity created by the phenomenon of You Tube. The cultural and media analysts must be having a field day with this one, and those of us who have given any thought as to how music is presented in modern society and who grew up listening to recordings even before the LP era can only be amazed. After some forty-three million electronic hits Ms. Lisitsa gets her chance to perform before a packed house in Royal Albert Hall. Her self-introduction in very broken English is charming, and her program, while unusual only in its huge technical challenges, is dispatched with brisk efficiency. It features several Liszt virtuoso pieces, culminating with the Todentanz and the La Campanella etude, in both of which she is simply dazzling. Listening to these I thought of a remark by Samuel Johnson which might be paraphrased as follows: The wonder was not that they were well donewhich they were!but that they could be done at all. Her three Chopin offerings show great sensitivity, and her two Scriabin numbers are played with real commitment and energy. Oddly enough, the Rachmaninoff, one of her specialties, seemsat least to this listeneralmost perfunctory, and the G minor prelude is surely too fast! The Beethoven and Mozart are fine, but, given the competition, you would probably not buy this disc to hear her in these. On the whole, and despite a few reservations, I enjoyed this disc immensely. I cant imagine anyone passing it byits really an historic occasion in recording history, beautifully photographed and recorded: the Decca producers did the occasion complete justice, it seems. Ill be returning to this often."
