Sono Luminus is proud to present this two-disc set from pianist Michael Landrum, Nocturnes, bringing together a plethora of composers’ works that enliven the nocturne genre of music.
The nocturne genre has long been a topic of interest to Mr. Landrum. He has had the opportunity to share his insights into this ever-evolving repertoire on many occasions throughout the country. - Sono Luminus

"...A professor of music at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY, Landrum has made something of a specialty of the nocturne. Of the many approaches to the form featured here, a few are highly tumultuous. Take Tcherepnin’s Nocturne Op. 2 No. 1, whose middle section consists almost exclusively ofRead more crashing octaves and sixths or sevenths, and whose outer sections are dark and foreboding. Or consider Tchaikovsky’s Nocturne in C-sharp minor, with its challenging final section. Or Bizet’s Nocturne, which builds drama like an operatic potboiler. Others here are gems of dreamy, fleeting emotions..." - WQXR Read less

100% DISSATISFIEDDecember 29, 2018By Julia Engdahl (Hayward, CA)See All My Reviews"I purchased the wonderful CD Nocturnes on December 10th. It arrived in a defective case that won't hold the two (2) discs in place. I reported this by email the day it arrived. This was a Christmas gift. Several days later I was promised a replacement case. Several more days later two days before Christmas I received a case for a single (1) cd. I then requested a RA# and a full refund because with ArkiMusic's record of timing I knew wouldn't make it for Christmas! I then located the disc at another source with guaranteed shipping by Monday the day before Christmas. It was also less expensive, free shipping, and no tax! Today is December 29th and I have not heard anything from ArkivMusic except this request for a review. To add insult to injury as well as a spoiled Christmas gift I was required to bother with creating an account with a password etc. etc. in order to submit a review. I bet they won't publish my review but in case they do I recommend acquiring cds from other sources which may be less expensive and better customer service and response times."Report Abuse
Lovely pianist, great choice of piecesMay 3, 2016By JOHN TURK (San Pablo, CA)See All My Reviews"While I am no connoisseur of this type of music, I did enjoy hearing these pieces played. They offer a peaceful interlude, and can actually calm the spirit. I recommend this CD."Report Abuse
Great addition to my libraryAugust 12, 2013By Thomas N. (Collegeville, PA)See All My Reviews"I can't disagree more with the one star reviewer! Many of these little gems are new to my library and for that alone I would give stars, but the playing is outstanding! I was particularly taken by the Respighi Nocturne - a beautiful modal thing that reminds me of some mid period Scriabin. There is no doubt Professor Landrum has done admirable research, his playing is sensitive and full of feeling, and I'm happy to support projects like this that open my ears to new things."Report Abuse
