High Voltage Tchaikovsky July 7, 2015 By owen  r. (lakewood, CA) See All My Reviews "It's nice to have these selections on one disc. Being shorter works (15-23 min.) They are usually found as ''fillers.'' The first 3 are dramatic pieces played for full effect by Ashkenazy and the Royal Phil in the glorious Decca sound. The last piece is the 1812 by the St. Petersburg Phil., et al. This is the first time I've come across this Choral Version-- interesting variation. The 1812 does not seem to be recorded with the same clarity as the other works; but still good. Where else are you going to find four spectacular Tchaikovsky gems for 9 bucks?" Report Abuse
Ranks with the best August 12, 2013 By Steve B. See All My Reviews "Great combination of Cannon and Chorus and fantastic, augmented orchestra. I have accumulated 20 versions of the 1812 over the years. This ranks right up there with the top 3. Really different and exciting." Report Abuse
