A Quick-silver Mendelssohn Violin Concerto February 25, 2016 By owen  r. (lakewood, CA) See All My Reviews "Lacking any Kyung-Wha Chung in my collection I ordered this disc. Ms. Chung was playing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with the Seoul Phil. at age 9. This recording was made in 1981 at the nadir of her career. A 2008 injury to her hand put her performing career on a hiatus. This glorious performance may not top Heifitz's RCA recording but is a worthy companion piece. Dutoit and his Montreal forces provide a first- class accompaniment to Ms. Chung. The Hebrides Overture and Symphony 4 (both early 1978 digital) provide a gratuitous fill-up for the disc-- not bad, but more Chung from the Decca vaults would have been better." Report Abuse
