Notes and Editorial Reviews

One of the classical world's premier trumpeters is Maurice André. He possesses a crisp and delicate yet robust tone, which suits the Baroque canon very well. MUSIC FOR TRUMPET is a compilation of his recordings from 1976 and 1977 and consists mainly of Baroque period "standards" by J.S. Bach, Albinoni, Telemann played flawlessly and with genial affection. There are no surprises, but the performances are first-rate. The standouts are a stately yet gently stirring performance of F.J. Haydn's last concerto, the Trumpet Concerto in E-Flat and the reservedly dramatic Trumpet Concerto in F Minor by Georg Philipp Telemann. The digital remastering is excellent--anyone seeking an overview of Baroque music composed or arranged for trumpet will be Read more enchanted by this collection. Read less
