Notes and Editorial Reviews

Mikhail Rudy is one of the major representatives of the Russian piano school in Europe. 1977 during a tour to France he decided not to return to his homeland, which was a deep gash, but certainly not a career break. Before he was ,,discovered" by EMI, he recorded two remarkable CDs of works by Mussorgsky and Liszt for the French label CALLIOPE, which proved his extraordinary talent. On PHAIA the two important recordings will be reclaimed at an extremely attractive price.  Correcting the listing at ArkivMusic October 10, 2012 By James H. See All My Reviews "PhaiaMusic PHU015.16 does indeed contain Pictures at an Exhibition on CD1, but the additional piano pieces here are Mussorgsky's Reverie, A Tear, and Gopak. There is no Scriabin on either disc. CD2 is all Liszt, beginning with the Piano Sonata, followed by 8 short late piano pieces. Timings for CD1-42:22 and CD2-60:50. These are all good performances."
