Complete (almost) songs of Beethoven February 22, 2014 By Stuart Price (Peekskill, NY) See All My Reviews "Beethoven wrote a lot of music for the voice. Much of it is not gratifying vocally (he never allows the singer a chance to breathe) and could easily be done by a violin or flute. That said, these are fine performances, particularly by the young (then) Pamela Coburn. Hermann Prey was more mature at the time of these recordings, but still very satisfying in his performances. There are a few more Beethoven songs not included, but they are not too important. I wish they had included translations and not just German texts (a common complaint about lieder recital discs). I have been hunting for some translations. Even the reliable recmusic.com does not have them all. Anyone with a suggestion?" Report Abuse
