Brilliant execution; gorgeous sound January 31, 2013 By William Lokke (Livermore, CA) See All My Reviews "Andrew Arthur is more than the director of music at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He is also an extraordinary performer on both baroque organ and harpsichord. So when the college asked him to consult on a new harpsichord by Andrew Garlick he was able to bring both his musicological and performer skills to the project. This extraordinary recording shows the result. In 79 minutes he ranges over both familiar and unfamiliar Baroque masterpieces, all together showing an astonishing variety of harpsichord colors and textures, recorded in close up glory. From darkly moving Couperin, through Bach, Bohm, Greene and Purcell, to a magisterial virtuosic Handel, Arthur is in full command. The listener is left hoping for a recording soon of the Goldberg Variations by Arthur on this magnificent instrument." Report Abuse
