A Classic SpectacularFebruary 18, 2013By J S E T. (West Grove, PA)See All My Reviews"Tuneful with rich orchestration, Sadko is a wonderful work. It is legend dramatized. This recording from the early 1950s boasts an outstanding Russian cast lead by Georgi Nyelepp, a tenor of heroic tone and unlimited breath control. Reizen and Lisitsian add to the "great voices of the Bolshoi" line-up of singers. Most important, though, is the conducting of Nicolai Golovanov, ever flexible, text driven, a throw back to Romantic times and styles of music making. The sound is quite full and well balanced despite the recording's age. Remarks to the contrary elsewhere, this recording does observe the standard theatrical cuts of its day."Report Abuse
