"My fascination with Scoenberg never ceases. It started when I was still a teenager. I heard the premiere performance of the Piano Concerto in an MBC Syphony Orchestra radio concert, not conducted by Toscanini. Later I met the pianist's widow when she was director of the Schoenber Institute at USC. Boulez is probably the greatest living composer, a fine conductor as well. I'm pleased we were born the same year and enjoy good health. This recording is amazing, lucid, emotive, wonderfully realized. I bbelieve this opera is actually an oratorio. I also think it owes a great deal to Bach, but Bach remain. The booklet is really excellent, especially the interview with Boulez. Highly recommended."
