"Silvio Varviso's performances on the Wagner program are all good ones. The conductor and the Dresden musicians obviously understand the meaning of the complete works these often-heard Overtures and Preludes represent...The best performance (and sonics) on this disc isn't noted on the front cover — Richard Schumacher's Siegfried Idyll. The chamber scale here is exactly right; the mood is tender and untroubled, as the music is never pushed too hard. The recording is much more immediate than for Varviso's material,
with lovely instrumental timbres."
