Notes and Editorial Reviews
This selection is also available in cassette format as Naxos 4-554790.
The Naxos label's "Listen, Learn and Grow" series is designed to provide an enriching, beneficial musical experience which will stimulate children's minds. The booklets included with the CDs touch on the increasingly popular notion that classical music can affect brain development in infants. While this premise can be debated, there's no denying the positive benefits of listening to good music, and Naxos provides it in abundance. The series is attractively packaged and, in addition to the fine musical selections, offers information and advice for new parents. The performances and sound quality are excellent throughout.
LISTEN, LEARN, AND GROW - LULLABIES deals with
one of the biggest issues and potential problems facing parents of newborn babies: sleep. This entry in the series is packaged as a parent's guide with music provided to calm and soothe the entire family. The selections offered constitute a veritable greatest hits of tranquility and slumber--Mozart's 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,' the lullabies of Brahms, Chopin, and Schubert, and pieces from Mendelssohn's 'Songs without Words,' among others. This CD may not guarantee a good night's sleep, but it will certainly provide a pleasurable listening experience. Read less
