The best of both worlds February 4, 2015 By M. Hutton (Woodbury, TN) See All My Reviews "I decided to get another set of symphonies to supplement the Klemperer version. Apparently this version is considered a dinosaur, especially since conductors learned about the metronome, but I expect the power and majesty of Klemperer's efforts are sufficient to satisfy the master. In any event, I wanted to experience something else. Selection was between John Eliot Gardener and Daniel Barenboim. Didn't get the Barenboim because of political correctness; however, the composition of the East West Divan Orchestra AND THEIR PERFORMANCES clearly demonstrate the validity of the Hegelian triad, Gandian and Kingian creative tension, and finally the symphonic structure - thesis, antithesis, synthesis. These symphonies are gorgeous, fast enough to satisfy the more recent approaches but with sufficient nuance that they don't sound like carousel music." Report Abuse
