Notes and Editorial Reviews

Venezuelan-American pianist Vanessa Perez will makes her Telarc International debut with an all-Chopin collection, including the 24 Preludes Op. 28.

Perez is a product of the same energized musical culture in Venezuela that produced such international stars as conductor Gustavo Dudamel and pianist Gabriela Montero. Praised for a bold, passionate performing style allied to musicianship of keen sensitivity, Perez has been championed by the most iconic of performers. Conductor Zubin Mehta said of the pianist: “Her level of musical perception and artistic awareness impressed me as much as her total command of the keyboard.” And the legendary pianist Claudio Arrau was touched by her playing, describing Perez as “a pianist whose
Read more technique, musicality, and intelligent approach to the music she plays made a profound impression on me.”

Chopin Etudes Revealed In Humility June 26, 2012 By don rae (sacramento, CA) See All My Reviews "The disc received NPR "interview", and, hearing the artist's voice I felt that great humility and privilege she voiced about her musical involvement. The chance encounter with a conducting 'great', Claudio Arrau, was testimony of the attraction she undoubtedly exudes. Now, having heard the complete etudes, I feel that uncommon focus of talent and artistry upon a body of work where the composer is forefront. Never is it necessary to compare apples and oranges; say, to one Garrick Ohllson whose passion for Liszt was in evidence at the Mondavi recently. He has indeed weathered his muse to the benifit of us all, but to say, ms Perez has exhibited care and subtlety toward the playing of the Preludes, and not to virtuosity alone. For this attribute, I feel certain I shall return to her playing frequently for an enjoyable hearing." Report Abuse
