Notes and Editorial Reviews

"It is of more than passing interest to note the variety of expression in these nine examples of “restful” music. Although they are of approximately equal length and employ the same orchestra (the piano is not used, nor are singing voices, nor much in the way of percussion), the totally different concepts of mood and form prevent undue similarity. Some are pieces based on the bible, but others are contemporary treatments of Greek and medieval dances. Some are evocations of a definite “program,” while others are abstract symphonic movements drawn from a larger work. But each does possess a thoughtful serenity and a calm emotion devoid of cloying sentimentality that make it especially suitable for one’s times of quiet listening." - from Read more the liner notes by Robert P.
