Notes and Editorial Reviews

This selection is a Hybrid Multichannel Super Audio CD. The Stereo Hybrid SACD program can be played on any standard compact disc player. The DSD Surround and Stereo programs require an SACD player for playback.

“This is Volume 3 of a four-disc set, each available separately, in Pentatone’s marvellous RQR series….Chorzempa’s performances are models of good taste with swift, well chosen tempi and the balance between the organ and orchestra is perfect. Though not true period style, the accompaniments by the Amsterdam chamber orchestra are always alert and never sound heavy. The harpsichord is nicely balanced with the strings and oboes are always clearly audible….Everything I have written about the sound and performances on this
Read more disc applies equally to the other three volumes, and it comes down to personal choice of the music as which to buy. If your funds allow it, I would not hesitate to get all four.”

“Chorzempa and Schröder deliver the marginally preferred version of these works, at least to my mind. Even at slower tempos (but not consistently slower), they play with more spring than Preston/Pinnock, who emphasize the music’s pomp and ceremony. And despite the occasional presence of mechanical noise from the organ, Chorzempa/Schröder enjoy a sonic advantage; not only is the surround sound clear and natural, but Concerto Amsterdam has a much warmer, mellower tone than Pinnock’s more nasal English Concert.”

---James Reel, Fanfare (November/December 2003)

“This CD is a continuation of the set of Handel organ concertos recorded in the Oud-Katholieke Kerk of The Hague in September 1975. These were originally recorded in quadraphonic sound with the engineers achieving a splendid natural sound with plenty of presence. The masterful performances sound authentic indeed. These are the only multi-channel recordings of this music and highly recommended.”
