Notes and Editorial Reviews

One of the finest and most celebrated choirs in England performs a stunning disc of liturgical music by Antonio Vivaldi. Includes ‘Stabat Mater’ (RV621), ‘Beatus Vir’ (RV597, Vivaldi’s setting of Psalm 111), and ‘Domine ad adiuvandum me in G major’ (RV593).

Review:

This disc casts helpful light on a side of the Priest-Composer rarely glimpsed, helping further dispel the absurd myth that he wrote one piece several hundred times. Contains 3 major works for double chorus and orchestra all of which fit into the context of a 1720’s Vespers service. Ex Cathedra’s singing is excellent, by turns graceful and energetic, the standard fully matched by the crisply articulate period-instrument orchestra.
