Brilliant brass and a sense of fun June 8, 2012 By Harvey M. (Evanston, IL) See All My Reviews ""tenThing" is a CD full of interesting and lively brass music, played by an all-female brass ensemble. It was a featured selection on WFMT, the Chicago classical music station. The ten players are led by trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth, hence "tenThing". Composers on the CD include Albeniz, Bizet, Grieg, Mozart, Piazzola and Weill, and a new recording of Jan Koetsier's Brass Symphony. The group began as four trumpeters and grew to be an extra-special all women's group. Not only are there a lot of excellent female brass players in Norway, which helped fill the ranks, but the women in tenThing are looked up to by younger beginning female brass players. They decided on ten players so they could play large orchestral works. A sense of play permeates everything the group does. When interviewed, Helseth responded to many questions by saying "Because it's fun!" That sense of fun can be heard throughout this CD." Report Abuse
Great brass! June 7, 2012 By Herbert D. (Santa Rosa, CA) See All My Reviews "I have always loved brass instrument recordings. This is no exception. The group does a marvelous job of recording some great music. I like it so much, I keep it in my car. I don't particularly care for the brass suite from the Threepenny Opera, but I like the other selections enough to still give the recording 5 stars." Report Abuse
