"English composer Alan Rawsthorne's 2 excellent piano concertos get a very fine reading from soloist Peter Donohoe and the Ulster Orchestra under Takuo Yuasa. These modern works display no obvious dissonance and are full of high quality counterpoint. The orchestral backing is perfectly balanced to Donohoe's virtuosic work on the piano. Rawsthorne's style almost hearkens back to a hazy, glorious Romantic halcyon past, and perhaps one might even call his works neo-Romantic in an odd sort of way. I recommend this fine disk for anyone looking for outstanding English music from the later 20th century."
