Ah, Memories March 23, 2016 By David H Cooper (Rio Rancho, NM) See All My Reviews "I was in Boston and at Tanglewood during MMr. Leinsdorf's tenure. These performances recall the excellence of his work with my favorite orchestra. He once made reference to Karajan's chocolate covered Beethoven. None of that here. Much excellent playing and phrasing. Slow tempos by today's standards, but depth and devotion present throughout. I owned the vinyl versions at one time. They sounded better to my ear." Report Abuse
Beethoven has never sounded better! February 9, 2016 By James T. (Dayton, OH) See All My Reviews "Leinsdorf interprets Beethoven with such great precision and apparent knowledge of the music that I cannot imagine the 9 symphonies ever sounding better. The dynamics and timing lead me to believe that he studied Beethoven to a great depth, revealing an intense composer. I have listened to the original vinyls of these and this cd set is simply the best." Report Abuse
A welcome re-release-Leinsdorf and the Boston Sym May 1, 2015 By George Masson (Levin, Horowhenua) See All My Reviews "Great value to have these symphonies remastered 24bit Hi res as well. I have the 7th on vinyl which I had remastered 24bit/96KHz from the Lp to CD. Interesting to compare it with this release, which you would expect to sound better straight off the master tapes, and it does. Off the vinyl the sound is warmer and sounds very good and just as enjoyable as the sound on this release which is crisper and leaner. All the space and depth on both, so no complaints on that score. Especially liked the Pastoral but the performances are uniformly excellent throughout and sound is consistently very good throughout. Recommended." Report Abuse
