Notes and Editorial Reviews
Volume 3 from the series of the Welte-Philharmonic-Organ, which was originally built for the Britannic ocean liner, is dedicated primarily to entertainment on board a steamer.
But this recording also pays tribute to the sister ship of the Britannic, the Titanic, which sank nearly 100 years ago in 1912. Among other things, we hear compositions written specifically to commemorate the tragedy. Curiously, a number of versions of Nearer my God to thee are found here: this song was supposedly heard once again on board the Titanic, after the North Atlantic had already devoured large parts of the ship.
