Notes and Editorial Reviews

This contemplative and joyful collection of Christmas music spans several centuries and and most of western Europe. It ranges from the deeply mystical and religious to the secular, from elaborate art music to folk song. Many of these melodies have provided inspiration for subsequent composers, and several of the texts give a wonderfully fresh look at the Christmas story, as if the words were being spoken by someone who was actually present at those miraculous events.
