Notes and Editorial Reviews

Recorded for Marco Polo in the 1990s, it’s good to see this recording of Herrmann’s classic score re-released on Naxos. The playing may be a touch raw in places, and the sonics are not as fine as what the Naxos engineers have been achieving lately, but film music collectors will find little to quibble about. Certainly the music is vintage Herrmann: moody and atmospheric, with an effective storm scene (as much psychological as literally descriptive), and some charming themes associated with Jane herself. If you missed this disc the first time around, here’s your chance to make up for it.

Ominous, intriguing sounds February 12, 2012 By John B. See All My Reviews "What an ominous conclusion to this film music to "Jane Eyre" by Herrmann. The combinations of timbres remind one of innovations by Berlioz a century earlier. All families are represented, including a nice cross-section of percussion instruments: some mallets, others non-pitched. A worthy project for any good Orchestra." Report Abuse
