Jean Derbes (1937-1982) is another rarely heard composer the TIMPANI label has discovered for us. His French Swiss origins resulted in a remarkable body of work. His orchestral works turned away from the formulaic aspects of the avant-garde, whilst also indulging in any "neo-Somethings" of influences. His most haunting and passionate music has perhaps something in common with the Alban Berg Lyric Suite.
