IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!April 10, 2015By J. Fitzgerald (San Francisco, CA)See All My Reviews"OK, for the sake of truth, fairness, etc., I am a passionate fan of Leontyne Price, so if it's objectivity you're looking for, look elsewhere. I think hers is the most beautiful voice God ever put in the throat of any woman, ANYWHERE! This incredible collection, which celebrates Price's startling diversity in so many different niches, is overwhelming. The sheer beauty of her voice is one thing. The staggering breath control is another. And perhaps most astounding, unlike so many other sopranos, the higher the notes go she doesn't get thin and tight and pinched. On the contrary her voice expands and shimmers like the most glorious stars in the Cosmos! (One critic once said her voice was like "a banner flying".) She sings everything wonderfully, but let's face it, the real glories in this collection are the Verdi, Puccini, Richard Strauss and Samuel Barber arias. And Mozart too. It's a special treat to have the albums as they were released, with the original cover art. The recycling is marvelous. My special favorite: the Met concert with Marilyn Horne and James Levine, several weeks AFTER her MET farewell performance! If you want to help a friend understand why you're not rational when it comes to opera, play this CD for them. If they don't get it, they'll never be an opera fan. Enough! Get this album (bargain price too good to be true) and cancel all your schedule. Just listen. AND REJOICE!!!"Report Abuse
