Notes and Editorial Reviews

The tradition of harpsichord playing had all but faded completely when a young Warsaw-born pianist began to devote her life to rediscovering the instrument of of Bach and Couperin. Her name was Wanda Landowska, a musician of immense technical and musicological authority, who was responsible singlehandedly for the modern revival of the harpsichord. Her most important pupil was Rafael Puyana, who was born in Bogotá, Columbia, in 1931... Unerring rhythmic vitality, penetrating scholarship, and imposing technical mastery are the characteristics of Puyana's playng.
