Notes and Editorial Reviews
Miko?aj Ziele?ski (?-?, flourished 1600s) is one of the first important Polish composers whose work foreshadows the early Baroque. All that has survived of his music are two 1611 liturgical cycles of beautiful polychoral works, known as the Offertoria et Communes totius anni. The volumes comprise 131 vocal, organ and three instrumental fantasias by Ziele?ski dedicated to the Archbishop of Gniezno. Remarkable for its time, in the polychoral works Ziele?ski does not rely on a cantus firmi or a plainsong melody but rather Polish songs of the period. This release, volume 4 in a series, features the vocal artistry of Emma Kirby.
