"Mark Wigglesworth, when running the BBC Wales as an extremely young conductor, produced a disc of this piece for BBC Music Magazine that got my attention in a hurry. It was way way more interesting than Rattle's first recording of the 10th. He'd been called "Baby Rattle' by some writers, and his early appearances with my local band, the Philadelphians, were terrific. I simply don't understand why he has fallen off the map. That said, the current recording fulfills the promise of the earlier work. I've heard most recordings of the reconstruction, and nobody, nobody has this piece in their skin like MW. Rattle's 2nd recording, of course, has the better orchestra, but MW's approach feels so much more natural."
