Notes and Editorial Reviews

Here’s an appealing gift idea for a friend looking to experience some classic baroque concerto recordings (and other stuff) in top-notch interpretations by some of today’s best artists. These six discs give you Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and a selection of concertos for strings, Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, a disc of solo keyboard music “in the Italian manner”, and a program of concertos for various instruments by Bach, Vivaldi, and Marcello, including a transcription for violin and strings of Bach’s Italian Concerto for solo harpsichord. These are all excellent period-instrument renditions that have received excellent press the world over, and they are very well recorded. Hard-core collectors probably already own some of them, but for Read more newcomers this deserves consideration. Handy, and attractive.
