Notes and Editorial Reviews

A significant part of Yehudi Menuhin's legend has rested on the nature of the person behind the musicianship, his warmth, generosity and spirituality. This reissue of Bach concerto performances from his teenage years is cherishable not only for the earnest sweetness of the playing but because it links the young Menuhin to his mentor, the composer and violinist George Enescu, who by all accounts was a man of similar virtues. Their recording of the D minor Double Concerto is famous for its eloquent simplicity and the touching sympathy found between the two soloists. It is timeless Bach playing, sounding neither old-fashioned nor modern, but naturally expressive. Much the same can be said of the two solo concerto performances, both energetic Read more and rapt as the situation calls for, and showing the artist forever fixed in his moment of youthful grace.
