Notes and Editorial Reviews
These sonatas - very different in style, if not in spirit. Romantic in tone, classical in form, the Cello Sonata is very different from the Viola Sonata with its tragic climate, in which a terrifying fear of death replaces the bittersweet melancholy of the earlier work. Both works were a success and are now included in the repertoires of the great soloists.
