Notes and Editorial Reviews

With this CD, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie under Andrey Boreyko dedicates itself to the topics of seduction and dance. The recording includes “Le Chant du Rossignol” - Stravinsky’s innovatively scored, lyrical ballet based on the music from his opera about a magical bird, a mechanical bird and a Chinese Emperor; “Prélude à l’Après-midi d’un Faune” - Debussy’s shimmering masterpiece, now enormously popular yet bewildering to its earliest audiences and “The Miraculous Mandarin” by Bartók. A fantastically scored ballet involving a seductive female dancer and a gang of vicious thugs who use her dance to rob attracted victims, until a Mandarin with magical powers gives them more than they bargained for. Storylines Read more aside, these are all attractive, exciting orchestral scores.
