Notes and Editorial Reviews
A wealth of recordings is available with music by Telemann written in the popular French and Italian styles. However, on their new Channel Classics disc entitled Barbaric Beauty, the Holland Baroque Society focuses on Telemann's music in the Polish style. Joined by Milos Valent - a specialist both in Baroque music and 18th-century Central-European folk music - the group plays a program that mixes classical and folk music of the period and demonstrates the centuries-old influence of 'popular' music on 'art' music. Alongside music by Telemann and his contemporaries, the disc includes dance music from the Melodarium/ Szirmay-Keczer and Uhrovec Collections, publications from which Telemann chose his favorite folk tunes.

"I have not heard this particular CD because I bought it as a gift. I haven't heard yet from the recipient either. However, I wanted to mention that dealing with ArkivMusic is always a pleasure as the service and delivery are swift and smooth. I recommend ArkivMusic as the best spot for Classical CDs because of its wide and varied selection, professionalism, quick response."
