Notes and Editorial Reviews

Leonard Williams, musician, author, conservationist and father of the internationally known guitarist John Williams, started his career as a musician after hearing recordings of jazz guitarist Eddie Lang. In 1938 he emigrated to Australia where he continued to teach guitar and was a studio guitarist for the ABC. In 1952, he returned to London where he started the Spanish Guitar Center, a studio devoted to teaching the classical guitar. In later life he retreated to study and write books about the Amazonian Woolly Monkey. In 1956 he published his very popular set of eleven Spanish and South American Folk Songs for two guitars. Although these pieces have been very popular over the years, theirrecorded presence has been very rare indeed. Read more Lutoslawski's Folk Melodies were originally written for solo piano in 1945. These pieces were later adopted as teaching material for Poland's specialized music schools, but he later arranged some of the melodies for four violins and for string orchestra. This beautiful set of pieces lends itself very well for two guitars. Read less
