Mezmerising ! January 10, 2017 By JOSEPH ERDELJAC (WEST CHESTER, PA) See All My Reviews "Janacek's opera is a study in characters and relationships and is complex but easily understood. The music is at once both beautiful and exciting as well as dramatic and moving. This is a story about common folk, in the verizmo style, caught in emotional situations driven by human passions; and the music suits each character at every turn. The singers, basically unknown to me, have wonderful voices and use them with emotional depth and color. Janacek has recreated a world of simple folk, living a simple life on the surface and faced with all the usual human emotional baggage. Over all a wonderful and mezmerising work !" Report Abuse
