Notes and Editorial Reviews

It's doubtful that Bach ever heard these seminal Concertos performed in this fashion with such hugh forces, but it's equally doubtful that he would not have rejoiced if he did. Karajan's powerfully broad, borderline Romantic interpretation is stunning and the Berlin Philharmonic sound absolutely gorgeous under his direction. As one of Deutsche Grammophon's earliest digital recordings, the sound is also remarkably spacious and well-detailed complimenting the performance beautifully. Got the original instrument blues? Here's the cure! It's doubtful that Bach ever heard these seminal Concertos performed in this fashion with such hugh forces, but it's equally doubtful that he would not have rejoiced if he did.  My favorite presentation. May 4, 2017 By J. Codd (Chandler, AZ) See All My Reviews "I bought this to replace a copy I've had for >20 yrs. Of all the various conductors and Orchestras that I have heard perform these pieces, this is my favorite. It took quite a while to find it, but ArchivMusic seems to have a rather comprehensive library. It will become my go to for classical. JBCODD" Report Abuse
