Notes and Editorial Reviews

Where most other conductors prefer to change tempo when the mood changes [in the four-voice Mass], particularly in the Gloria and the Credo, [George Guest] keep[s] the music moving and concentrate[s] on making the large design speak for itself... But the best of the St John's record is in the fivevoice Mass, where Guest is rather more passionate in his approach, allowing more give and take. Particularly in the Agnus Dei there is a real sense of the sublimity of the music and the nature of the prayer.
