The liner notes for this compilation weave the seventeen excerpts from Verdi's beloved opera into an easy-to-follow narrative synopsis. This "virtual" version of 'Aida' possesses the enviable merit of assembling some of the most famous Verdi singers at the peak times of their respective careers. Hence, one hears a golden-voiced Luciano Pavarotti in a 1975 recording of Radamés' aria, "Celeste Aida." A 1960 recording of Renata Tebaldi singing "Ritorna vincitor!" finds the legendary singer calling upon her legendary acting and singing talents in order to render Aida's agonizing monologue with stunning conviction.
