When the LP of these performances appeared MH welcomed it with a good deal of appreciation and I entirely agree with him... With this recording the strings have just that bit more quality and smoothness, and their lines are particularly clear: and, especially at the start of the Fantaisie for flute and orchestra, they have a distinctly greater depth of tone.
Details about the Pavane state that it is done with the optional chorus and it occurs to me that though the ''inconsequential verses'', as the note calls them, are so inconsequential as not to be worth printing, readers may nevertheless like to know what they are inconsequential about! Well, they are merely the casual remarks of the dancers about the rest of the company

as they 'pavane' their way in the ballroom. Personally, I rather prefer this enchanting piece without the voices (especially as one cannot hear the words anyway) but that need not detract from the delightful performance on this record.
