Notes and Editorial Reviews

In [Symphony no 1, Maazel's] directness and brilliance is effectively underpinned by his care for detail. The outer movements are vivid, the slow movement is given a strong emotional thrust and the Waltz has both warmth and charm. The recording sounds well throughout the disc, bright and resonant.

-- Ivan March, Gramophone [12/1977, reviewing an LP release of Symphony no 2 and Romeo and Juliet]
