Notes and Editorial Reviews

Given a slightly less forward balance than on some of his recent recordings, Itzhak Perlman is here naturally integrated with the orchestra. Their precise playing and sharp recording contribute further to a performance of this nowadays rather hackneyed work which - more perhaps than on any other CD — allows us to appreciate every detail of the score, the harpsichord included. There is no playing for effect, and yet nice touches of expression and phrasing abound in all four 'seasons', so that our attention is never allowed to wander. Anyone looking for just one CD version of these concertos need look no further.
